EveryTile Privacy Policy
Last updated 17 October 2026
EveryTile is made by Ben Dansby. This policy covers the Mac app.
The short version
EveryTile reads what’s open and recent on your Mac so it can lay it out for you, and keeps all of it on your Mac. It has no analytics, no telemetry, no account and no identifier. It doesn’t send what it reads to me or to anyone else; the one request that reflects it is asking a website for that site’s own icon, described below.
What EveryTile reads
Each time you open the overlay, EveryTile gathers what its tiles show. It reads only what the tiles you’ve added need, and holds it in memory while the overlay is up.
- Apps and windows. Your running apps, and the titles of their open windows through macOS Accessibility, so a click can raise the right one.
- Browser tabs. The titles and addresses of open tabs in Safari, Chrome, Brave, Edge, Vivaldi and Arc, asked of each browser through Apple Events. macOS asks your permission once per browser.
- Folders and files. Recently opened and saved files and folders, Downloads and screenshots, from your Mac’s own Spotlight index; the folders open in Finder windows, asked of Finder through Apple Events; and your Finder sidebar favorites.
- Bookmarks. If you import or sync a collection with a browser’s bookmarks, EveryTile reads that browser’s bookmarks file on your Mac. It never writes to it.
- Recent apps. Apps you’ve opened recently, from Spotlight, to fill spare room in the Apps tile.
What stays on your Mac
Your collections, tile sets and layout are saved in EveryTile’s folder in Application Support, and your settings in your local preferences. Site icons it has fetched are cached in EveryTile’s caches folder. None of it is transmitted.
When EveryTile uses the network
Only for these:
- Site icons. To show a tab’s or a link’s icon, EveryTile asks that website itself for its icon, once per site, and caches the answer. It never uses a third-party icon service, which would see every site you have open. The site sees an ordinary request for its home page or icon, nothing more.
- Update checks. EveryTile asks
bendansby.com for its update feed. That request carries your app version and macOS version, which is what any updater needs to answer the question.
- Licensing. If you buy a license, activating it sends your license key to Lemon Squeezy, who handle the purchase and validation. Their handling is covered by the Lemon Squeezy privacy policy. EveryTile stores the resulting receipt locally and rechecks it occasionally. If you never buy a license, this never happens.
Permissions
EveryTile asks for these, each through macOS’s own prompt, and works without the ones you decline:
- Accessibility, to see Shift being double-tapped and to list and switch windows.
- Automation, per browser and for Finder, to read open tabs and Finder windows.
- Full Disk Access (optional), so Spotlight results from your Documents, Desktop and Downloads folders aren’t hidden from it.
It requests no screen recording, contacts, camera or microphone.
Children
EveryTile is a productivity utility. It is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will appear on this page with a new date.
