MarkWell Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 29, 2026
Short version: MarkWell does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information of its own. Your bookmarks live on your devices and, optionally, in your own iCloud account. There are no analytics, no accounts, no third-party SDKs.
What MarkWell stores
MarkWell stores your bookmarks (URL, title, tags, dates, optional notes) and a few app preferences in a local database on your Mac, iPhone, or iPad. If you have iCloud enabled, those bookmarks also sync through your own iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit framework — that data stays under your Apple ID and is not visible to MarkWell or anyone else. There is no separate MarkWell account, no login, and no analytics.
Network use
When you save a URL, MarkWell makes one request to that URL to read its <title> tag and favicon, so the bookmark shows a real page title instead of the raw URL. The request is sent with a User-Agent of MarkBook/<version> (+https://bendansby.com/apps/markwell/). The site you saved sees that request the same way it sees any other browser visit. No information about which sites you save is sent anywhere else.
iCloud sync (when enabled) goes through Apple's CloudKit servers and is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
Data shared with third parties
None. MarkWell has no third-party SDKs, no advertising, and no telemetry.
Children
MarkWell does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated date at the top of this page will change. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
